I have been the Director of the Strauss ECE and Kindergarten since March 2003. My philosophy of early childhood education is learning through play. I believe that a variety of experiences are enriching and stimulating for children.
As the grandmother of two Strauss ECE graduates, I am both personally and professionally motivated to make sure that all of the experiences, learning, and enrichment opportunities are as positive as possible. Understanding the critical role that teachers play and work hard to recruit the best teachers and provide ongoing support and training for them is an important part of my philosophy.
A little more background about myself, I was born in Tucson, grew up in the Catskill Mountains, went to school in Boston, moved to Albuquerque, and then eventually back to Tucson in 1992. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a minor in sociology and child development. I also have extensive post-graduate training in child psychology. My husband (of 42 years) and I have been members of Temple Emanu-El since 1992 and are the parents of adult sons, Steve and Grant.
I earned my Bachelor's degree in education from the University of Arizona and have taken many master level classes in Special Education. In my professional career, I have had the privilege of working with young children in preschool, after-school care programs and religious school settings. Ever since I can remember, I have always had a strong desire to work with young children and that passion has strengthened over the years.
It has been over 15 years now, since I first began working at the Strauss ECE and Kindergarten and have enjoyed every moment. I love being able to spend my days surrounded by children, while ensuring that they are provided with a wonderful and enriching environment. I enjoy learning about child development and leadership skills are constantly evolving and implementing them in my work.
I am married to a wonderful man and have two children who were both fortunate enough to attend the Strauss ECE and Kindergarten since they were babies!
I have been a teacher for over 30 years and have loved every minute of it. I began my career after graduating from college and worked in the Ukraine for 20 years. After moving to Arizona, I started working at the Strauss ECE and Kindergarten and the years have flown by. I love seeing children grow and develop as it is an amazing experience to be a part of their life. I became the Administrative Assistant in 2012 and treasure the daily interactions that I have with parents and teachers alike.
I have been married for 35 years and my husband and I have two adult daughters, one beautiful granddaughter, and three incredible grandsons.
I was born and raised in Tucson, AZ. I have been working with children for over 12 years. I worked at Casa De Los Ninos for over 5 years. There I realized I wanted to make working with children my career. I started working at Strauss in 2014 and immediately fell in love with all of the children and families. It is so rewarding being able to help mold the lives of such amazing children. Watching them grown and learn is the best part! I was so excited to join the Administrative Team in 2019! I am currently attending Pima Community College to continue my degree in education then I hope to transfer to the University of Arizona.
I was an only child growing up in a huge family. When I was 19 my mother adopted three of my cousins children (all newborns) and I have helped her raise them since. I consider them my children as well. They are now ages 9, 10, and 11. They are so amazing! I love watching them in sports and all of their school events.
